Our power plant started operation in 1978 and was privatised in 1996. The basic activity of AES-Tisza Power Plant Ltd. is electricity and heat generation - with attendant preparatory tasks and additional activities. We are a utility power plant; one of the control plants of the Hungarian electricity system and, as such, need to deal with an extremely high, fluctuating load. Our power plant is a unit-switch, condensing, freshwater-cooled plant. There are 4 individual 215 MW units each with boilers, turbines, generators, a main transformer and an auxiliary transformer. Gross capacity is 860 MW. The amount of electricity produced in 2004 was 1,621 GWh. Thermal efficiency is around 38%. Electricity is generated through converting energy from condensed high-pressure, superheated steam. The boilers have both oil and gas burners.

The Csanyikvölgy unit, situated at the foot of the Bükk-mountains, complies with the strictest environmental regulations; this is why authorities gave permission for enlargement. In this factory we manufacture traditional ampule syringes and as an exception to the norm, pre-filled syringes.

Our company was established under the name of North-East Hungary Motorway Construction and Management Corporation by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Water (representing the Hungarian State) in 1996. We were founded with the aim of developing, operating and maintaining the M3 motorway. In mid-2000 we merged with the State Motorway Construction and Management Corporation and the West Hungary Motorway Management Corporation.
